Port Canaveral
A shot of the docks at Sunrise Marina behind Grill's restaurant at Port Canaveral. This place can't be beat for fresh seafood at a good price. You can see a Disney and a Carnaval cruise ship across the way in the cruise basin. Live web cam of the fish weigh-in board here.

Country Club greens being replaced
The crews are hard at work stripping the old greens down at the Cocoa Beach Country Club and preparing to replace them with a new more salt-tolerant and faster grass. If you'd like to test the difference, there is a half old/half new practice green on the right just after you make the turn off Minutemen Cswy. to the Country Club. Stop and putt on both and see for yourself. The new greens read 11 on the Stimpmeter. The old ones read between 5 and 6! Anticipation is killing me.

Another Mayo Board
This time it's a soft tail 10' 0" with deep burgundy pigmented resin. A beauty as always. See more boards at Mayo Surfboards.

Goodbye Australian Pines
The City of Cocoa Beach has been warming up their destruction machines on South 4th St. (above) by mowing down the Australian Pines along the river in preparation for their full-on deforestation assault on the Thousand Islands. That pile of mulch in the photo used to be beautiful (invasive to the proponents) pine trees along the river bank. I'll miss them and the sound the wind made sighing through their wispy needles. My sentiments are not shared by all. Whatever.

Manatee herd
I was at Solana on the River previewing a condo yesterday and there were dozens of manatees congregated at the deep hole by the outflow at the end of Central Avenue. This time of year the manatees are always there. If you want to get up close to a large group of manatees, drive to the west end of Central Ave. by the Brighthouse office and park at the little park there. If you're not sure how to get there, go to Google maps and search for West Central Ave. Cape Canaveral 32920.

Osprey chicks at the Cocoa Beach Country Club
Sorry for the phone camera quality. Ospreys raise chicks in a nest on this light pole overlooking the driving range every year at the Country Club. I don't know if it's the same pair every year but these birds live for 20 to 25 years and usually mate for life. You can see the adults taking mullet and other fish they've caught to the nest every day. They are quite noisy with almost constant chirping.

New Mayo Fish
Larry Mayo was taking shots of a few new boards yesterday out back on the deck. This gorgeous 5'6" double-winger fish caught my eye. No airbrush for Larry, strictly pigmented resin.
