A Good New Cocoa Beach Restaurant

Fat Kahuna's Beachside Grill is open in the old Key West Taco building in front of Coconuts in Cocoa Beach. I've eaten there twice and looks like I will be returning often. I had the mahi sandwich on my first visit on opening weekend and the ahi tuna kabob (pictured above) last Saturday. The mahi sandwich was one of the best I've had anywhere in this county and the kabob with roasted veggies, coconut rice and kahuna slaw was over the top. The menu includes tempura starters (mushrooms, green beans, zucchini, shrimp, calamari, mozzarella), salads, kabobs and dinner plates of shark, shrimp, tuna, chicken, mahi, veggies, burgers, sandwiches of fish, shrimp, chicken and tuna and assorted sides. Beer and wine are served. Prices are wallet friendly.

Art Festival Saturday

Sunrise south Cocoa Beach Nov. 24, 2012

Woke up to a cloudless sky, head high, super-clean waves and slightly chilly temps in the low 60s at the moment projected to hit mid 70s by midday. Art Festival begins today in downtown Cocoa Beach and looks to be a good one.

Manatees in Banana River

At least four dead manatees were discovered in the Banana River in Cocoa Beach this week. Their deaths were not boat related and, at this time, speculated to be biological in nature. I will update info as it is released.

More post-Sandy beach pics 10-27-12

The surf is cleaning up rapidly with the NW wind.
We lost some beach but many dunes held strong.
Dunes are remarkably strong in south Cocoa Beach
There were dozens of turtle eggs washed out of late nests

Thankfully most turtle nests have hatched by late October

The day after

Buoy hit wave height of 30 feet during the night
Water was a little high at the contest site behind Coconuts yesterday

Wind has little west in it already Saturday morning so surf should begin to subside and clean up. It's a far cry from the shot above from Friday afternoon. The contest may actually be able to run heats today.

Sandy's erosion beginning in Cocoa Beach

This morning 10-26, 8 AM at N. 1st Street
This was about 2 hours after high tide 10-26
I'm thinking these seaward dunes will be lost at high tide this afternoon

Bad day fishing

While my friends and I had a great last day of snapper mini season
yesterday someone's day was not as good. We saw the boat above on the beach
in the Canaveral Bight on the way back in. No details at this point.
BTW, we caught our limit of snapper (one per person) smallest 14 lbs.

Crabs & fighters in Cocoa Beach

The sound from the Raptor doing it's maneuvers today at the Cocoa
Beach air show was so loud and intense it had the ghost crabs
seeking shelter above ground. This guy cowered at the back door
until the ruckus was over.
